Support World Obesity Day

Today is World Obesity Day and ISN is joining the World Obesity Federation in its call to end childhood obesity.

While it is widely recognized that obesity increases the risk for a variety of chronic diseases and conditions – including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, liver disease, and certain cancers – the important role that it plays in the development and progression of kidney disease is rarely acknowledged. Obesity is an important risk factor for the development of kidney disease and increases the risk of developing major contributors to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and End-Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD), such as diabetes and hypertension.

This is why ISN is proud to join the World Obesity Day Campaign and the calls for implementation of prevention, education and awareness strategies on the risks of obesity and the need for a healthy lifestyle, including proper nutrition and exercise, which can contribute to the prevention of chronic kidney disease.
