ISN Dialysis Framework

ISN Dialysis Framework: low-resource settings

The ISN has developed this framework in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO)in the context of a non-government organization with official relations with WHO. This framework outlines the requirements and operational considerations for setting up or expanding dialysis programs and is intended as a tool to support the WHO member states in developing sustainable strategies for the treatment of patients with kidney failure. This guidance covers human resource needs, infrastructure requirements, processes (forperitoneal dialysis [PD] and hemodialysis [HD]), quality assurance for dialysis as well as ancillarycare for patients with kidney failure.

Early CKD Detection Scoping Protocol

Although early CKD identification and intervention hold promise for reducing the burden of CKD and risk factors, it remains unclear if an uniform strategy can be applicable across all income groups. The aim of this scoping review is to synthesise available evidence on early CKD identification programmes in all world regions and income groups. The study will also identify efforts that have been made to use interventions and implementation of early identification programmes for CKD across countries and income groups.

Storytelling is a powerful way to inform, educate, and activate change. Help raise awareness and improve understanding of the reality of living with kidney disease by sharing your story at the ISN Community Film Event. The ISN Community Film Event is a unique initiative to raise awareness and improve understanding of the reality of living with kidney disease.

2022 Competition:

From a game-changing service providing nocturnal hemodialysis in a home-training dialysis unit in Australia to international workshops benefitting young people living with Alport Syndrome in the UK, these films present the challenging realities facing kidney disease patients. Touching, motivating, and sometimes surprising, these films all have the power to improve the lives of patients worldwide as they help raise awareness of kidney health issues.

Building Capacity

As a society, ISN is dedicated to advancing worldwide kidney health. A major focus of ISN activities is to build the capacity of healthcare professionals

In LMICs, the insufficient number and uneven distribution of trained professionals and equipped facilities impacts all aspects of kidney care. Therefore, ISN is striving to improve the support for prevention and increase capacity by addressing workforce shortages, developing effective multidisciplinary teams, and enhancing renal care facilities to address patients’ needs in low resource settings.

Discover here our impact in LMICs in the last decade and find out here how ISN can help.

Ultrapure Dialysis Fluid: Rise Together for Patient Safety

UPDF is a highly refined level of dialysis fluid that helps to maximize patient safety. The acceptable levels of bacteria and endotoxin in dialysis fluid have steadily decreased and the impact of impure dialysis fluid has been increasingly recognized. This culminated in the development of ISO standards (23500-5) that cover the production of UPDF.

A well-functioning dialysis unit will integrate the expertise of numerous skilled colleagues to ensure an effective patient-care approach is meticulously implemented. By doing so, multi-disciplinary teams can rise together for patient safety.
