ASN/ERA/ISN Kidney Ethics Webinar Series: Autonomy in kidney care – Ethical and practical challenges

The American Society of Nephrology (ASN), the European Renal Association (ERA), and the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) are pleased to announce the third webinar in their joint webinar series on Kidney Ethics.

Join Professor Dominique Martin, Dr Fergus Caskey, Dr Priya Pais, Dr Viviane Calica-Silva and Dr Vivek Jha on Autonomy in kidney care – ethical and practical challenges on October 21 at 2 p.m. CEST.

The webinar will highlight:

  • Explain the concept of autonomy and discuss the implications of respect for patient autonomy.
  • Critically evaluate factors that may influence respect for patient autonomy when disclosing information about treatment options in resource-limited settings.
  • Discuss strategies to support the inclusion of patients in decision-making about kidney care.

This webinar will explore ethical considerations regarding the inclusion ofpatients in decision-making about treatment, when potential conflicts may arise between physician duties to respect patient autonomy and to avoid causing harm. In particular, the issue of disclosure of expensive or unavailable treatment options in resource-limited settings will be discussed. The session will comprise a brief talk and case-based discussion with panellists who will reflect on experiences and practices in a range of different settings

We invite you to review the joint ASN/ERA/ISN publication,
Ethical challenges in nephrology: a call to action,” prior to the webinar.

The webinar either no longer exists or an error has occured.
