Venezuela institute offers valuable interventional nephrology training

ISN Fellows Shahbaj Ahmad and Israel David Campos Gonzalez gained hands-on experience in interventional nephrology procedures thanks to valuable training in the renal department at the Hospital Universitario de Maracaibo in Venezuela.

Israel David Campos Gonzalez from Instituto Nacional de Cardiologia Ignacio Chavez in Mexico City explains how his knowledge on renal ultrasound and mapping for vascular access was limited.

He says: “With my host mentor, we would like to create a local training center for interventional nephrology in Mexico.”

Shahbaj Ahmad from Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, Dehradun in India also benefitted from his training experience in Venezuela.

“I shall now be able to perform interventional nephrology procedures and share this knowledge with other nephrologists”

Ahmad adds: “I would like to make nephrologists more self-dependent in delivering comprehensive kidney care to their patients in a timely manner as well as reduce their reliance on other specialities.”

Finally, fellowship mentor and interventional nephrologist, Octavio Salgado expresses pride at the progress of both fellows. Under his supervision, they performed more than 960 color Doppler ultrasound evaluations on native and transplanted kidneys. He is very much looking forward to hearing about their contributions to the future of kidney care in their regions.

The deadline to apply for the Fellowship Program is October 1st, 2015. For further information, CLICK HERE.
