ISN looks forward to representing the kidney health community at this week’s World Health Assembly in Geneva.

Coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the World Health Organization (WHO), this assembly’s program is a busy affair for ISN.

Two major agenda points are set to be agreed upon among the WHO member states. This includes the organization’s next general program of work, which will govern the entity from 2019 to 2023, and intends to make WHO fit for the future: e.g. by aligning its work fully with the overarching goal of Universal Health Coverage, by prioritizing NCDs stronger and by shifting most of its operations to the country level leaving the headquarter with the main role of coordination, norm-setting and advocating for a bigger global health policy space. It will also focus on WHO’s position in the end of the year UN High Level Meeting on NCDs which will set the international community’s course on NCDs for the next 4 years.

Besides the plenary and committee discussion, there is a myriad of side events organized by member states and CSO to provide in-depth overviews of pertinent issues. ISN is co-organizing a meeting of the Global Circulatory Health Coalition on Tuesday May 22, 2018.

From 12.15 to 1.45pm, showcasing how universal health coverage can be made to work for circulatory health including kidney disease. Read more HERE.

In addition, ISN’s Dr Valerie Luyckx will be presenting the case of kidney disease at an official side event entitled “Towards universal access to solid organ transplantation” and organized by the delegations of Algeria, Argentina, China, Costa Rica, Croatia, Dominican Republic, Italy, Portugal, Qatar, the Russian Federation, Spain and Uruguay. The event will take place on Thursday, May 24 from 12.30 to 2.pm in the Palais de Nations in Room VIII.
