Ana Elizabeth Figueiredo, Professor of Nursing at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, recently visited Sudan to share skills and knowledge, providing focused and onsite training for senior dialysis nurses.

The Dr. Salma Dialysis Center is one of the largest academic and open access facilities that care for renal patients in Sudan.

In the country, there are currently about 7,000 patients with end-stage renal disease undergoing renal replacement therapy. A deteriorating economic situation has resulted in severe brain drain and scarcity of highly-trained dialysis nurses.

talk with sudan national pd program'I believe, as nurses have few opportunities to train abroad, this kind of program can help to improve the theoretical and practical knowledge of the dialyis nurses, therefore improving patient safety,' says Dr Figueiredo.

She will also assist them in developing a training curriculum for the next generation of nurses. She will review and advise on the new nephrology nursing curriculum of the Sudan Medical Specialization Board. This aims to train specialized nephrology nurses for the first time in the Sudan.

The ISN Educational is a great way for medical communities to learn from each other. Find out more about applying, HERE.
