Video conference opens new perspectives for Sister Centers Featured

Belarus teleconf 2019In February, more than 50 nephrology health care professionals from across Belarus gathered to talk about the 2018 annual report of Nephrology Health Care Service. It was a unique opportunity to also connect online with doctors involved in the ISN Sister Renal Centers partnership between institutions in Belarus and Germany.

Every year, this national gathering of doctors from Belarus is a chance for professionals to share experiences with their peers, discuss the challenges they face, and develop new perspectives about the nephrology health service in the country.

One of the highlight's of this year's meeting was a video conference set up between teams at the Belarus Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education in Minsk and University Hospital of Charite in Berlin, Germany. Discussions centred around the Banff Classification of Graft Dysfunction.

Belarus teleconf 2019 audienceThis session was moderated by Professor Klemens Budde and Associate Professor Kirill Komissarov. The main speaker was Dr. Birgit Rudolph, the kidney pathologist of Institute of Pathology, Charite, Berlin. She presented with her colleague Dr. Kaiyin Wu one of the most complex classifications in pathology – The 2017 update of Banff Classification of renal allograft pathology.

They spoke about all aspects of this classification by the use of excellent pathological slides from their collection. Most importantly, they were able to share their outstanding experience with Belarusian nephrologists and kidney pathologists in a very easy and interactive way.

The Sister Renal Centers Program brings together institutions worldwide, , supplying them training with a framework for collaborations with many educational benefits.

Professor Kirill Komissarov says: ‘This meeting was a good example of how technology will shape healthcare in the future, for both, the clinical patient care and for educational purposes.’
