Indian starsThrough the ISN Mentorship Program Priya Pais, at St John's National Academy of Health Sciences in Bangalore (India) connected with mentor Larry Greenbaum, from Atlanta's Emory University School of Medicine (USA). Guidance from her mentor helped her set clear foundations to write her research paper and prepare a grant proposal.

Larry Greenbaum spent three days St John's National Academy of Health Sciences in Bangalore, India. Priya Pais explains: 'His advice regarding my future focus in clinical research helped me to center on the topic of hypertension. This layed clear foundations to work towards writing a paper, and subsequently a grant proposal.'

Since the visit, they have corresponded via email, sending sections of the paper back and forth. 'I expanded my study sample as a result and have refined my statistical analysis,' she adds.

Dr Pais has now finished her manuscript on ambulatory hypertension in pediatric renal transplant recipients. She says it is the first report on hypertension in children from India, and probably also from South East Asia, where patient profiles are quite different from the western world. She adds that Dr Greenbaum's perspective really helped to bring focus to the analysis and presentation.

Moreover, she has submitted an abstract to the World Congress of Nephrology that is accepted for poster presentation, focusing on hypertension in children with primary vesicoureteral reflux.

The ISN Mentorship Program fosters expertise-building relationships between nephrologists worldwide. Find out more HERE.
