13th National Conference of Russian Dialysis Society brings focused training to Russia’s medical community Featured

Audience CME Russia 2019The Russian Dialysis Society, with support from the ISN Continuous Medical Education Program (CME), organized its 13th National Conference, in conjunction with the 18th North-West Nephrology Summer School. It was a chance for doctors as well as students from medical schools across Russia to gain much-needed training across different areas of nephrology.

speaker cme russia 2019Over 300 delegates from Russia and the Newly Independent States gathered in St-Petersburg for the main national congress focusing on dialysis as well as a summer school and an ISN CME course.

According to Elena Zakharova, ISN Executive Committee representative; ‘There is an uneven distribution of dialysis services throughout the region, with several areas poorly covered by renal replacement therapy.’

She highlights a strong need for nephrology courses in Russia and the Newly Independent States so that medical professionals within nephrology and beyond can come together to improve diagnosis and raise awareness about prevention.

Jha and speaker CME Russia 2019The conference opened with a session on hot topics in clinical nephrology followed by talks on chronic kidney disease management: controversies and perspectives as well as a multidisciplinary approach to nephrology. There were also selected sessions on acute kidney injury treatment as well as a round table discussion on the current status of renal anemia treatment in Russia.

Many of these sessions were presented by a mixture of local and international experts in the field as well as members of the ISN, including ISN President Vivekanand Jha who made the welcome address at the ISN CME. He introduced the session on current issues in clinical nephrology, selected issues of chronic kidney disease management and a meet the expert session on membranous nephropathy, IgA-nephropathy.

Another highlight was the round table clinical pathology workshop which was moderated by ISN Fellow Olga Vorobyova who introduced cases of C3-glomerulopathy, membranous nephropathy, and kidney damage associated with ulcerative colitis.
