EAP Cameroon USABeing an ISN Educational Ambassador is a rewarding experience for ISN members and local doctors in developing countries. Participants feel they are sharing what they know while contributing to change in nephrology. "It was great to watch residents carry out ultrasounds on their own patients at the end of the course," says Charles O'Neill from Emory University, USA. Last November, he gave an interventional nephrology course to trainees and residents at the General Hospital Yaounde, Cameroon.

First Pediatric dialysis course audience webLast year, saw ISN organize the first Indian Pediatric Dialysis Training course in collaboration with the Medicity Hospital in Gurgaon, Haryana, India. Over two days, delegates from all over India joined the discussions. They were also accompanied by participants from Kuwait and the Royal Hospital in Oman

Speaking at CME Anila Abraham webThis January, the Madras Medical Mission in Chennai was the location for an ISN Global Outreach Continuing Medical Education (CME) course on nephropathology. Local consultant pathologist Anila Abraham Kurien spoke at the sessions alongside Patrick Donovan Walker, Director of NephroPath in Little Rock, Arkansas, USA.

The course looked at healthy vascular and fistula care as well as the mechanisms of nephropathy.

Telehealth program BolviviaIn April 2012, thanks to a great sister center partnership in Bolivia and an ISN research and prevention grant, a telehealth system was set up to provide better follow-up care for kidney patients in rural areas. A pool of nephrologists at the Instituto de Nefrología in La Paz now provides remote long-term kidney care to patients in Renal Functional Units at peripheral centers across the country.

New ISN GO CME Chair appointed Featured

Finkelstein.ISN is pleased to announce that Fred Finkelstein (USA) will succeed Norbert Lameire (Belgium) as ISN Global Outreach (GO) Continuing Medical Education (CME) Chair. His appointment will take effect as of June 2013.

The ceremony took place at the 11th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Jordan Society of Nephrology which was organized from January 23 to 25, 2013 in Amman, Jordan.

Video testimonies on pediatric nephrology in Colombia Featured

Following a successful ISN Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program in Cali, Colombia last October, ISN is happy to share some testimonies filmed during the meeting at the ‪Institucional Unidad Neurología Pediátrica‬, Fundaciòn Valle del Lili. ISN GO South Asia Regional Workshop Featured

The Gujarat University Convention Centre was the location for the first ISN GO Regional Workshop in South Asia, held on December 8, 2012 during the third day of the 43rd annual meeting of the Indian Society of Nephrology. This Regional Workshop in South Asia completes the first pilot cycle of regional workshops planned in each of the ISN developing regions from 2011 to next year. Plans are now in progress to begin the second cycle of these new events to be held from 2013 to 2015.

Nanjing Forum 2012.In August 2012, the Nanjing Forum achieved its usual high level of success. Today, the event is widely acknowledged as a top-level academic meeting for nephrologists in China.

This September, South East Asia was the destination for several educational events in Malaysia, Laos and Vietnam, including the region’s first ISN Global Outreach (GO) Regional Workshop and several Continuous Medical Education (CME) courses.

ISN and AMGEN have agreed to develop a partnership to express their mutual commitment to the global advancement of nephrology. This Fellowship scheme is designed to support young physicians from Egypt, Turkey, Russia or South Africa who wish to apply to train abroad in clinical care, research or educational methods. There are only a few weeks left to apply for the upcoming call for the ISN Global Outreach (GO) Fellowship Program. The deadline has been set for December 15, 2012.

The ISN GO Fellowship program provides relevant and contemporary nephrological training to physicians from emerging countries, with the ultimate goal of improving the standards for fellows in their home country upon their return and help them become leaders in their field.

A Continuing Medical Education (CME) course was organized from October 23 to 27, 2012 in Douala, Cameroon. This was a joint initiative between ISN and the European Renal Association - European Dialysis and Transplant Association (ERA-EDTA). It was also organized with the assistance of local nephrologist Gloria Ashuntantang.

Norbert Lameire will be standing down from his role as Chair of the GO CME Program in June 2013. He has done a superb job for ISN in this role over the last 6  years.

We anticipate a strong slate of nominations to replace Norbert in this very important role in the Global Outreach programs. The ISN leadership has already received a number of recommendations of excellent candidates, but we are keen to evaluate a very broad field. We would therefore be very pleased to receive from any ISN member a recommendation about an individual who you think we should be considering for this role.

Also known as the Nanjing Forum, this meeting has become a regular feature on the ISN event calendar.

Teerayut Jiamjariyaporn (Thailand) and Kwazi Celani Zwakele Ndlovu (South Africa) will receive a grant to fund a research and prevention program in their region.

The ISN Global Outreach (GO) Programs are one of ISN's most exciting initiatives focusing on bringing together nephrologists by offering interesting educational opportunities in developing and developed countries. To stand with the best chance of taking part in these programs, mark the following application deadline dates in your calendar.

 

The ISN GO Eastern and Central Europe Regional Committee held its first regional workshop on May 26, 2012 during the ERA-EDTA Congress in Paris. Some 35 people attended the meeting, including leaders from Eastern and Central Europe. Participants came from Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Romania, Belarus, Russia and Ukraine.

conference center indiaThe Department of Nephrology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences recently organized a kidney disease awareness program aimed at children. The program was endorsed and supported by the Kidney Foundation Institute of Delhi, the Indian Academy of Nephrology and the Indian Society of Nephrology. Nearly 800 school children from 20 schools in Delhi, both public and private, and thirty teachers took part in this half day education program.
