For participants arriving in Dalian, taxi is the recommended and simplest way to reach the hotel. We recommend keeping the hotel name and address in Chinese available on your phone to show to the taxi driver.

From Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport (DLC)

The hotel is approximately 10–11 km from Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport.

• Travel time: approximately 20–30 minutes, depending on traffic
• Indicative taxi fare: approximately CNY 30–50 (RMB) one way
• Where to take a taxi: please follow the signs to the official taxi stand outside the airport arrivals area.

From Dalian North Railway Station (Dalianbei / 大连北站)

Participants arriving by high-speed train will normally arrive at Dalian North Railway Station, which is the closest major railway station to the hotel. The hotel is approximately 3–4 km from the station.

• Indicative taxi fare: approximately CNY 10–20 (RMB) one way
• Where to take a taxi: follow the signs to the official taxi waiting area at the railway station.

Taxi Payment

Taxi fares in Dalian are charged by meter. Mobile payments such as Alipay and WeChat Pay are widely used in China, while international credit cards might not be accepted by taxis.

For international visitors, we recommend having some Chinese cash (RMB/CNY) available for the taxi journey. Participants who have already set up Alipay with an international bank card may also be able to use mobile payment. (please see the page Payments for more info)

Payments

Payments in Mainland China

When travelling to Mainland China, please be aware that international credit/debit cards are not accepted everywhere, particularly for smaller, everyday transactions. Mobile payments via QR code are widely used throughout China.

We therefore strongly recommend setting up Alipay before your trip.

Before travelling:

1. Download the official Alipay app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
2. Register using your mobile phone number. International phone numbers are supported.
3. Follow the instructions in the app to complete registration/identity verification if requested.
4. Add your international credit or debit card under Bank Cards / Add Card.
5. Alipay supports major international card networks, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB, Diners Club and Discover, subject to the issuing bank and Alipay’s conditions.
6. We recommend completing the registration and card-linking process before departure, so that any issue with your bank or card can be resolved in advance.

While in China:

Alipay can be used for many everyday payments, including shops, restaurants and transportation. Depending on the service and city, it can also be used for public transport and to book taxis/ride-hailing services directly through the app. To pay at a merchant, you will normally either scan the merchant’s QR code with Alipay or show your Alipay payment QR code for the merchant to scan.

Please also note:

• The Crowne Plaza Dalian Sports Center will accept payment by Visa or Mastercard;
• If possible take a small amount of Chinese RMB cash as a backup.

Do not rely exclusively on a physical credit card for everyday purchases or transportation. The most practical combination is Alipay as your main payment method, an international card, and some RMB cash as backup.
