Pre-Congress Program

ISN WCN 2021 pre-congress courses

Descriptor: This course covers the principles and practicalities of designing and conducting randomised clinical trials. It will provide an overview of the trial creation process from concept to protocol, including practical advice on when and how to engage consumers. The course will feature an overview of the fundamental features of the classical trial including design, conduct and reporting. It will also discuss innovative trial designs with a particular focus on their relevance to evidence generation in nephrology. Participants will be introduced to statistical principles for classical and innovative trial designs. The course will equip participants to critically assess randomised trials and will provide an introduction to trial design and delivery.
Descriptor: The Interventional Nephrology Course is designed for physicians and associate health providers and offers a unique opportunity to learn the fundamentals and nuances of evidence-based dialysis vascular access care, as well as techniques of establishing PD catheter access and managing common access complications. The video-based workshops presenting actual procedures with patients will be led by world experts, and will feature learning of procedures such as performing PD catheter insertion techniques such as Modified Seldinger, open surgical dissection, fluoroscopic, and laparoscopic/peritoneoscopic, as well as nuances of Vascular access such as percutaneous AVF creation, tunneled hemodialysis catheter insertion, endovascular procedures (PTA, thrombectomy, stent insertion, accessory vein obliteration, and endovascular banding) that are essential to manage dysfunctional vascular access. World experts will be present for live Q&A for each technique.
Descriptor: The Nephrology Annual Review Course is an astounding event for those who want to stay updated about hot topics of nephrology.
This course has three themes: molecular pathophysiology of kidney diseases, tropical nephrology, and advances in dialysis. Renowned speakers from all parts of the world will cover the homeostasis of podocytes, tubular pathology in kidney disease, infections and toxin-related nephropathies, as well as the care of CKD patients with advanced age and diabetes. The session gives an in-depth review for researchers and practicing clinicians, with the coverage of advanced laboratory techniques and practical tips for management.
Descriptor: This program is a must for kidney health professionals to hear from international experts presenting the latest on vascular access, fluid management, physical activity, nutrition and patient activation and self-care. The program will be ideal for nephrology nurses, dietitians, social workers, pharmacists, psychologists, exercise professionals and other health professionals passionate about innovations in delivering exemplary multidisciplinary and collaborative kidney care.

Pre-recorded didactic sessions will be available on demand as of 12 April, followed by live summary and Q&A sessions on 15 April. Delegates are strongly recommended to view the pre-recorded didactic sessions before participating in the live sessions on Thursday, April 15. While watching the pre-recorded didactic sessions delegates are able to submit questions via a chat box. Speakers will receive these questions before LIVE sessions on Thursday April 15.

Descriptor: The Peritoneal Dialysis Course will discuss initiation of PD from the perspective of the patient, the program and international policy. Improving technique survival, as well issues pertaining to the peritoneal membrane, volume management and peritonitis will be reviewed. In light of the changing landscape of medical care, remote monitoring of PD patients, and the use of PD in times of crisis will be discussed.
Descriptor: Renal biopsy examination plays an important role in the diagnosis and management of medical renal diseases, providing prognostic information as well as aid in therapeutic decision making. The renal pathology course offers an in-depth update of the various kidney lesions commonly encountered along with potential utility of ancillary techniques. This course also describes recent insights into the pathophysiologic aspects of diseases and recommendations for further molecular and genetic studies, where necessary.

A range of the glomerular, tubulointerstitial and vascular lesions of the kidney will be discussed along with problematic areas in transplant pathology. Additionally, a symposium dedicated to challenging topics in kidney disease that may occur in most geographic areas, as well as a case seminar showing distinctive renal biopsy findings, that are instructive towards a definitive diagnosis. The speakers are renal pathologists and nephrologists from around the world who are recognized leaders in their field.

Pre-recorded presentations will be available on demand as of 12 April, followed by live CPC and Q&A sessions on 15 April. Delegates are strongly recommended to view the pre-recorded didactic sessions before participating in the live sessions on Thursday, April 15.
