KI-ISN Early Career Researcher: Clinical Science

The KI-ISN Early-career Researcher Awards recognize outstanding research in basic and clinical science published inKidney International (KI) in the year leading up to WCN.

Dr. Nattawat Klomjit is an assistant professor in the division of nephrology and hypertension at the University of Minnesota, in Minnesota, USA. He earned his medical degree magna cum laude from Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, in Bangkok, Thailand. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Hawaiʻi, in Hawaiʻi, USA, followed by a research fellowship at the Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Center at the University of California in Los Angeles, and a clinical nephrology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he received the Best Clinical Fellow Award. He joined the University of Minnesota faculty in July 2021.

Dr. Klomjit’s clinical and research interests include glomerulonephritis and rare autoimmune kidney diseases, complement-mediated kidney disorders and thrombotic microangiopathy, onconephrology, and monoclonal gammopathy–related kidney diseases. He is actively engaged in clinical research and serves as a site principal investigator for multiple nephrology clinical trials, particularly those involving glomerulonephritis and complement inhibitors.

Dr. Klomjit has published over 40 articles in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and has received multiple awards recognizing excellence in teaching, research, and clinical care. He serves on the Research and Position Statement Committee of the American Society of Onconephrology and is a member of several national and international professional societies.

Paper: The Mayo MGRS Prediction Tool calculates the risk of finding monoclonal gammopathy of renal significance in a kidney biopsy in patients with monoclonal gammopathy, published in August 2025.

The KI-ISN Early Career Researcher Award winners will be recognized at WCN’26 in The ISN-KI Editorial Fellows Session: The Best of 2025 KI Articles taking place on Monday, March 30, from 9:25-10:55 a.m. Japan Time in room 315.
