ISN Clinical Research Program (CRP) Abstract Awards recognize the three top-scored WCN’26 abstracts submitted by recent CRP participants.

Dr. Sukanya Govindan is a consultant pediatric nephrologist and clinician–scientist based in Chennai, India. She works in a low-cost teaching hospital and is deeply engaged in the care of children with advanced kidney disease from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Her clinical expertise spans pediatric dialysis, renal transplantation—including immunologically complex transplants—long-term vascular access preservation, growth optimization, and assisted feeding strategies in infants with kidney failure.

Dr. Govindan’s research focuses on low-cost kidney replacement therapies and acute kidney injury therapeutics in children. She is the primary investigator of a multicentric randomized controlled trial in neonatal acute kidney injury, for which she has received support from the ISN. She is also the recipient of a Women in Transplant grant for research in influence of gender on life outcomes in children receiving kidney replacement therapy.

Dr. Govindan is an associate editor of BMJ Paediatrics Open, and convener and lead of the Indian Pediatric Renal Nutrition Taskforce. She is also a Morris Fellow in Global Public Health at the University of California, in Berkeley, California, USA, where she is strengthening her work at the intersection of clinical research, health equity, and health systems strengthening.
