Clinical Research Program Rising Star Award

The ISN Clinical Research Program Rising Star Award recognizes the efforts of those doing research in low and lower-middle income countries and increasing research capacity through community engagement.

Dr. Priya Pais is a pediatric nephrologist at St John’s National Academy of Health Sciences, in Bengaluru, India, one of the largest stand-alone pediatric nephrology centers in the country, with a strong focus on delivering accessible kidney care, including kidney replacement therapy. Her research centers on inequities in access to care for children with chronic kidney disease (CKD), particularly those requiring dialysis and kidney transplantation, and its associated ethical challenges in resource-constrained settings.

Dr. Pais holds leadership roles within the International Pediatric Nephrology Association (IPNA) and the International Pediatric Transplant Association (IPTA). In 2021, she was awarded an ISN Clinical Research Program grant to study the costs and outcomes of pediatric CKD, with a focus on catastrophic healthcare expenditure and its relationship to patient outcomes across public and private healthcare sectors. Findings from this work have catalyzed broader, ongoing research initiatives aimed at improving equity and outcomes in pediatric CKD.

The Clinical Research Program Rising Star Award will be presented in the WCN ISN Programs Awards session on March 30, 2026 from 1-2 p.m. Japan Time on Spotlight Stage 2.
