Fellowship Abstract Award: 2nd Prize

ISN Fellowship Abstract Awards recognize the three top-scored WCN’26 abstracts submitted by recent ISN Fellows.

Dr. Huda Al-Akrabi is a nephrologist and academic clinician at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) and KCMC University, in Moshi, Tanzania. She is committed to transforming kidney care in Sub-Saharan Africa and combines patient care, education, and research to address critical gaps in kidney disease prevention and treatment.

Dr. Al-Akrabi’s research focuses on chronic kidney disease among people living with HIV, with particular emphasis on early detection and health equity. Through her work, she challenges delayed diagnosis and advocates for screening strategies that reflect African realities. An ISN Fellow alumna, she believes that kidney care is not a privilege but a right, and that research must translate into policy, access, and dignity for every patient.

About the award, Dr. Al-Akrabi states, “I am deeply honored by this award and grateful for the mentorship and support that continue to shape my journey in global nephrology.”
