Young Nephrologists Abstract Award: Best Clinical Science

ISN Young Nephrologists Abstract Awards recognize the best WCN’26 abstracts submitted for basic science and clinical science as determined by the ISN Young Nephrologists Committee.

Dr. Priti Meena is a nephrologist and assistant professor of nephrology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar, in Bhubaneswar, India, and holds a diploma in clinical research. At AIIMS, she has served as a member of the Institutional Ethics Committee, contributing to oversight of clinical research of the institute.

Dr. Meena serves as associate editor of the Indian Journal of Nephrology and has been a guest editor for BMJ Nephrology, curating a special issue on women and kidney health. Her editorial fellowship with Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation (NDT) further strengthened her expertise in peer review, publication ethics, and editorial processes. She has published over 80 PubMed-indexed scientific articles to date, spanning epidemiology, clinical research, translational science, and systematic reviews, with work appearing in leading journals including The Lancet, Kidney International, American Journal of Kidney Diseases, Kidney Medicine, and CJASN. As an educator and advocate for accessible learning, she has authored and edited three nephrology books designed to simplify complex topics for trainees and young clinicians. Her efforts in nephrology education earned her the Dr. K.N. Udupa Award (2025) from the Indian Society of Organ Transplantation for academic excellence.

Dr. Meena has been involved in multicenter clinical trials and registry-based studies, and has received many grants, including ICMR funding for her research work. Her research interests center around three areas of major clinical and public-health importance in South Asia: pregnancy-associated acute kidney injury (PrAKI), glomerular diseases, and chronic kidney disease of unknown origin (CKDu). She is a founding member of the Indian Pregnancy-Related AKI Network (iPRAKI)—a growing national registry involving centers across India—and the Eastern India CKDu Initiative (EICKI), a longitudinal cohort study exploring CKDu in agricultural communities.

Dr. Meena is secretary (Eastern Zone) of Women in Nephrology–India, where she works to strengthen leadership, representation, and diversity in the field. Her international contributions are reflected in her selection to the ISN Emerging Leaders Program (2024 cohort) and her role as a member of the ISN South Asia Regional Board and ISN Young Nephrologists Committee. She also engages actively with digital nephrology education and social media-driven academic dissemination. She is faculty of the Nephrology Social Media Collective (NSMC), and part of the @ISNEducation Social Media Team.
