ISN-GKHA Named Fellow
The designation of ISN Named-Fellow is bestowed upon early-career ISN members who have contributed significantly to various ISN research-related initiatives in collaboration with ISN research group leaders.
Dr. Barny Hole is a kidney doctor and health-services researcher at the University of Bristol in Bristol, UK. His work examines how systems can balance prevention, disease management, and quality-of-life–focused care for older adults. His research has shown how older people with kidney failure choose between dialysis and conservative management, and that many prioritize independence and reduced treatment burden over life-prolongation. His clinical work seeks to integrate the practice and philosophies of geriatrics and palliative care into kidney medicine. After contributing to analysis of ISN-Global Kidney Health Atlas (GKHA) data and first-authoring the paper, “Global access and quality of conservative kidney management,” he was awarded the title of ISN-GKHA Named Fellow (2023-2025).
