Mentorship Abstract Award: 3rd Prize
ISN Mentorship Abstract Awards recognize the three top-scored WCN’26 abstracts submitted by recent ISN mentees after collaboration with their mentors in the ISN Mentorship Program.
Dr. Daniel P. Msilanga is a nephrologist and lecturer at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) and a clinician at Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He is an early-career researcher with a strong interest in kidney disease among people living with HIV and in improving kidney care in resource-limited settings.
Dr. Msilanga’s research emphasizes implementation-focused approaches to improve early detection of kidney dysfunction, particularly within HIV care programs. Through the ISN Mentorship Program, he implemented a study assessing the diagnostic accuracy of point-of-care creatinine testing for screening kidney dysfunction among people living with HIV in primary healthcare facilities. His work aims to generate locally relevant evidence to support scalable and equitable kidney care and to strengthen integration of non-communicable disease screening within existing health systems in sub-Saharan Africa.
About the award, Dr. Msilanga states, “I am grateful to ISN for supporting early-career researchers through different programs. This award highlights the power of mentorship and collaboration in advancing kidney research that is locally relevant and impactful.”
