ISN-ACT Named Fellow

The designation of ISN Named-Fellow is bestowed upon early-career ISN members who have contributed significantly to various ISN research-related initiatives in collaboration with ISN research group leaders.

Dr. Marimar Contreras Nieves is a postdoctoral nephrology research fellow at Stanford University in Stanford, California, USA. She is originally from Puerto Rico, where she completed her undergraduate and graduate training at the University of Puerto Rico, and subsequently completed internal medicine residency, nephrology fellowship, and a Master’s in Epidemiology and Clinical Research at Stanford University. Her research focuses on the intersection of kidney disease and environmental health, with particular emphasis on chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology (CKDu) in the USA and in Sri Lanka, including primary data collection among patients receiving dialysis in California’s central valley supported by an NIH F32 award, as well as secondary analyses of population-based datasets from Sri Lanka. For her role as a reviewer for ISN Global Kidney TrialWatch (ISN TrialWatch) – previously named Global Trials Focus – she was awarded the title of ISN-ACT Named Fellow (2023-2025).
