How this initiative helps advance kidney health worldwide?

The lack of information on how kidney care is organized, structured, and delivered across countries and regions, prompt the creation of the ISN-GKHA project. This initiative has provided for the first-time information that can be used in the development of initiatives and provide policy recommendations for improvements, towards optimal and equitable kidney care worldwide.

How did this initiative enable you to advance kidney health in your home country?

I am very proud to see that the ISN-GKHA, I co-lead with David Johnson, has had a broad and deep influence in shaping public policy on the care of people with kidney disease.  We are pleased to see that the ISN is working with international stakeholder organizations such as the WHO (World Health Organization) to translate the study findings into policies.

How does the future looks like?

This looks very promising. The ISN-GKHA will continue in a 4-year cycle to document and monitor progress. We are building capacity with the support provided to young nephrologists across countries (many of them had authored publications under the initiative). These people will be the future of the ISN-GKHA in their various countries and regions.
