What has been the impact of the World Kidney Day campaign in your location so far?

World Kidney Day in Brazil is coordinated by the Brazilian Society of Nephrology. Many events are organized. T-shirts and flyers with the theme are sent to everyone who registers activities. This year, we have 650 activities across the country. Public monuments are illuminated in cities, the most important being Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. Celebrities such as artists, athletes, politicians and football players support the cause and wear the T-shirt. Events range from courses, hikes, bike rides and educational activities. In 2021, they will be more discreet and especially online and on digital media due to the pandemic.

What does the future look looks like?

In 2008, I published my first cookbook for kidney patients in partnership with chefs and nutritionists. In 2009, we won the 2nd. place of the World Cook Book Award of Paris for cookbooks and health. In all, there were 5 publications focused on healthy eating and prevention. I will continue to dispel prejudices and fight a better life with kidney disease.
