ISN Africa Regional Board Webinar: Sustainable and environmentally responsible kidney care in Africa: Practical approaches for low-resource settings
- 3 PM CEST
CKD is rising rapidly across Africa, placing increasing pressure on already constrained health systems. At the same time, kidney care, particularly dialysis, carries a substantial environmental footprint, with high demands on water, energy, and consumables. This dual challenge calls for a rethinking of current models of care to ensure both sustainability and equitable access.
This webinar, aligned with the World Kidney Day 2026 theme “Kidney Health for All: Caring for People, Protecting the Planet,” will explore practical and context-specific approaches to sustainable kidney care in low-resource African settings. It will examine the growing burden of kidney disease alongside environmental constraints, highlight feasible solutions including prevention strategies and adapted dialysis models, and address the key barriers to implementation at system level.
Learning objectives:
- Recognize the burden of kidney disease in Africa and its environmental impact.
- Explain the bidirectional relationship between the environment and kidney health.
- Identify key challenges to delivering sustainable kidney care in low-resource settings.
- Apply practical strategies for prevention and adapted dialysis to improve sustainability.
