Call for nominations of ISN’s 2027-29 leaders

Deadline: September 23 (midnight CEST)

ISN voting members are invited to nominate candidates for the elections of 2027-29 ISN leaders. This is an opportunity for ISN members to help shape the future of the Society by putting forward experienced leaders who will guide ISN’s global and regional activities.

Nominations are open from August 10 till September 23 (midnight CEST) for:

  • President-Elect and  
  • Regional Board Deputy Chairs (who also serve on the ISN Council) for all 10 ISN regions

If you believe that you have, or someone you know, has the qualities to be an ISN leader, we encourage you to review the information below. If you recognize yourself in one of these leadership roles, ask another ISN member to nominate you. You can also nominate an ISN member you consider an excellent candidate.

Important general information about the nominations

  • To nominate a candidate, nominators must be current ISN voting members.
  • Nominees must be current ISN Full members at the time of the nomination. If shortlisted, they must renew their membership for 2027 to remain eligible to stand in the January 2027 elections. Their ongoing membership should remain current.
  • Nominations that do not meet the eligibility criteria, are not accompanied by supporting documents, or are not submitted by September 23, 2026 at midnight CEST will not be considered.
  • Only nominees shortlisted by the Nominating Committee (by the end of October 2026) will be included in the final slate of candidates for the ISN leadership elections in January 2027.

Nominate a potential candidate for ISN President-Elect

The ISN Nominating Committee seeks nominations for potential 2027-29 ISN President-Elect candidates.  The committee will shortlist three candidates from the nominee pool to stand in the elections, which are scheduled to take place between mid-January and mid-February 2027. All ISN voting members will be invited to vote for one candidate to become ISN President-Elect.

Role

The ISN President-Elect deputizes the President, who is responsible for leading the ISN in constant coordination with the Executive Committee. The President-Elect serves on the Executive Committee as a voting member and on the ISN Council as a non-voting member.

Term

The President-Elect’s term will begin at the ISN World Congress of Nephrology 2027 (WCN’27) and end at WCN’29, when they assume the role of President, serving until WCN’31.

Eligibility criteria

  • Nominees must be current or former ISN Executive Committee or Council members and ISN Full members
  • Nominees must consent to be nominated
  • Nominators must be ISN voting members
  • Self-nominations are not permitted

How to nominate a potential candidate for ISN President-Elect: 

  1. Complete the online nomination form (OR download and complete the Word format nomination form and email it to leadership@theisn.org)  and
  2. Email the nominee’s signed consent to nomination and their long-form/academic CV in English to leadership@theisn.org 

Nominate a potential ISN regional Board Deputy Chair/Council member

The ISN Nominating Committee seeks nominations for potential candidates for 2027-29 ISN Regional Board Deputy Chairs – who also serve as Council members –  for each of the ten ISN regions.

The committee will shortlist 2-3 candidates from the nominee pool for each region to stand in the elections, which are scheduled to take place between mid-January and mid-February 2027. ISN voting members will be invited to vote for one candidate in their region.

Role

Regional Boards represent the ISN across its ten regions, acting as the society’s “eyes and ears” while supporting regional engagement and collaboration with ISN Affiliated societies.

Each Regional Board is led by a Chair and Deputy Chair. Both positions also serve on the ISN Council.

Term

The terms of the elected Regional Board Deputy Chairs/Councilors start at the ISN World Congress of Nephrology 2027  (WCN’27) and continue until WCN’29,  when they become Regional Board Chairs/Councilors until WCN’31.

Eligibility criteria: 

  • Nominees must be ISN Full members and consent to be nominated
  • Nominators must be ISN voting members
  • Self-nominations are not permitted
  • Members from Croatia, India, Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mexico, Russia, Uganda, United Kingdom and United States are not eligible for nominations as Regional Board Deputy Chairs/Councilors during this election round; we encourage members from these countries to be nominated in the next elections round
  • Former ISN Regional Board Chairs are not eligible for nomination to the Regional Board Deputy Chair/Council Member position until six (6) years have elapsed following the completion of their Regional Board Chair term 

How to nominate a potential candidate for ISN Regional Board Deputy Chairs/Councilors  (nominations are open in all 10 ISN regions): 

  1. Complete the online nomination form (OR download and complete the Word format nomination form and email it to leadership@theisn.org)  and
  2. Email the nominee’s signed consent to nomination and their long-form/academic CV in English to leadership@theisn.org . CVs should be a maximum of four pages; academic CVs may be referenced/included as an appendix.
