Hypertension and the kidney will lead talks at Nexus Brisbane

There are just a few days to go to register for the next ISN Nexus symposium in Brisbane, Australia. Register for the regular rate before August 22, 2014. This meeting promises to be an interesting one as it focuses on Hypertension and the Kidney.

It will take place from September 25 to 28, 2014 at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. Nexus Symposia are designed to bridge the gap between basic research and clinical practice by bringing researchers and practitioners together to advance science and treatment around highly targeted and specific themes.

Unraveling the role of the kidney in hypertension will lead to active discussions. Thomas Coffman, Chair of the Scientific Committee, explains: “Hypertension affects more than 1 billion people worldwide.” He adds: “The topic of the kidney and hypertension has not been addressed recently, and there have been many recent advances in the field that will be of great interest to clinicians and researchers.”

Coffman is looking forward to the sessions focused on renal nerve ablation – an intriguing new approach for treating patients with refractory hypertension.  Experts in the field will be reviewing the basic pathophysiology of renal nerves in hypertension, along with the results of the latest clinical studies.

Other interesting sessions will focus on increasing importance of salt and the epithelial sodium channel in the vasculature, the role of the extracellular matrix as a buffer for sodium and how these concepts are widening our understanding of long-term blood pressure control.
