Events - Grand Rounds on Pregnancy associated AKI – an ISN-Global PrAKI Consortium Initiative – Spotlight on Tanzania

Pregnancy-associated acute kidney injury (PrAKI) is an under-recognised contributor to maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality, with incidence up to 30 times higher in low-income and middle-income countries than in high-income settings. Against this backdrop, the Global PrAKI Consortium and integrated Academy was established at an international stakeholder workshop in Nairobi, Kenya, in July 2025, with the aims to improve prevention, recognition, and management of PrAKI through research and education and to co- design practical tools and define a near-term pathway from evidence to service change. The International Society of Nephrology (ISN) has partnered with the global Pr- AKI consortium to launch a groundbreaking webinar series of grand rounds dedicated to pregnancy-related acute kidney injury. This collaborative initiative aims to bridge critical knowledge gaps and standardize maternal nephrology care, particularly in resource-limited regions where Pr-AKI remains a leading cause of maternal and fetal mortality. The inaugural session of this series focuses specifically on the unique situation in Tanzania, where regional challenges call for targeted medical interventions.
