Marimar Contreras Nieves is a postdoctoral nephrology research fellow at Stanford University. She is originally from Puerto Rico, where she completed her undergraduate and graduate training at the University of Puerto Rico, and subsequently completed Internal Medicine residency, Nephrology fellowship, and a Master’s degree in Epidemiology and Clinical Research at Stanford University. Her research focuses on the intersection of kidney disease and environmental health, with particular emphasis on chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology (CKDu) in the United States and Sri Lanka, including primary data collection among patients receiving dialysis in California’s Central Valley supported by an NIH F32 award, as well as secondary analyses of population-based datasets from Sri Lanka.
She contributes to the International Society of Nephrology through her role as a reviewer for ISN TrialWatch (formerly ISN-ACT Global Trials Focus) and was named an ISN-ACT Fellow (2023–2025).
