ISN-Cochrane Webinar: Oral protein-based supplements versus placebo or no treatment for people with chronic kidney disease requiring dialysis

Malnutrition is common in people with chronic kidney disease on dialysis. Oral nutritional supplements are often provided in conjunction with expert advice from dietitians. However, the benefits and harms of oral protein-based nutritional supplements in people with chronic kidney disease on dialysis continue to be debated. Using a case-based discussion, we present the findings of our systematic review exploring the role of oral protein-based nutritional supplements in this cohort.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Assessment of malnutrition in people with CKD requiring maintenance dialysis
  2. The role of oral protein-based nutritional supplements in people with CKD requiring dialysis
  3. What we don’t know about oral nutritional supplements in people with CKD requiring dialysis
