Kidney and gonadal function are closely interconnected, with disease in one system often affecting the structure and physiology of the other. This session will review the alterations in gonadal structure and hormonal physiology that occur in individuals with kidney disease, as well as the impact of gonadal disorders on renal structure and function. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the bidirectional relationship between these systems and the mechanisms underlying these changes. The session will also discuss strategies to optimize gonadal health in patients with kidney disease and to protect kidney function in individuals with gonadal disorders, with the goal of improving overall patient outcomes.
