Drum Roll, Please! ISN Young Nephrologists On-Stage at WCN’22

By Siah Kim (Australia), Member, Young Nephrologists Committee

WCN’22 is just around the corner, and the Young Nephrologists Committee is thrilled to invite all young nephrologists (and the young at heart!) to a program packed with exciting events planned with you in mind.

On Friday, February 25 at 18:00 MYT, we kick off the Young Nephrologists session, “The Future is Bright: Young Nephrologists in Action,” in Room 4.

This is the moment to cast off the gloominess of the past two years and get inspired by stories from young nephrologists who have maintained their commitment to education, training, and patient care, despite being in the thick of the pandemic.

We then move on to celebrations of a worldwide, innovative, and life-saving peritoneal dialysis (PD) priority policy, starting with Malaysia as it celebrates ten years of implementing this initiative.

The next stop is a roundtable panel discussion hosting young nephrologists from Mexico, Senegal, and Malaysia. They will give first-hand accounts of use of PD counteracting a limited capacity to deliver hemodialysis in resource-poor areas.

We round off by highlighting the achievements of young nephrologists in research, presenting WCN’22’s best clinical and basic science abstracts. This year, it was a close call; young nephrologists from every continent submitted an overwhelming number of high-quality abstracts – join us to congratulate them!

YNC activities at the congress culminate in an eagerly-awaited social event! While we would all much prefer to meet in person at WCN to share a glass of shiraz or a delicious spring roll, this year’s virtual gathering still allows us to catch up with old friends and meet plenty of new ones!

And fear not, ‘virtual’ does not mean boring! We have stepped up our game and invited a stellar group of ISN leaders who are ready to be grilled through pop quizzes and interactive games so we can get to know them better! Ever wondered whether Vivek Jha is more of an Avengers or Justice League fan? Well, come along and find out! YNC Social Event: Up Close and Personal with our ISN Leaders” will be held on Saturday 26, 16:30-17:30 MYT.

The fun doesn’t end with WCN’22! Our first Spotlight webinar of the year will be held on March 22 at 15:00 CET. These are free online exchanges on the ISN Academy, highlighting ISN initiatives in advocacy, research, and education.

Navigating websites and organizations to find what’s right for you can be difficult and time-consuming. We’re making this process easier by showcasing ISN Programs developed with young nephrologists in mind. This year the focus will be on the Emerging Young Leaders Program, the ISN Fellowship Program, and the ISN Mentorship Program. These programs offer incredible opportunities for keen and passionate young nephrologists; so come along and be inspired to join.

We look forward to seeing you all online at WCN’22!
