Ana Rose DY webPediatric nephrology is an ever-growing subspecialty in the Philippines. Raising awareness about kidney disease is crucial as it is especially common in children. Ana Rose Dy finished a two-year fellowship training for Pediatric Nephrology in the Philippines and was awarded the ISN grant for fellowship training at The Children's Hospital at Westmead.

During her fellowship in Australia, she gained the latest knowledge to better diagnose and manage Filipino children with complex renal diseases. Ana Rose Dy is from the National Kidney and Transplant Institute, Quezon City, the Philippines and spent several months at the Children's Hospital in Westmead, New South Wales, Australia to specialize further in pediatric nephrology.

"I received more exposure to renal diseases uncommonly seen in my country and this developed my confidence as a clinician. I learned about a whole range of pediatric renal diseases and can share this knowledge with my colleagues back home," she says. She hopes her contributions will shift the standards of kidney care in her region and improve training programs.

Among other skills, she acquired clinical expertise in managing renal failure using different renal replacement therapies, learned about renal nutrition and pediatric transplantation.

The National Kidney and Transplant Institute is a tertiary government hospital that provides optimal medical care to children with renal diseases, with aim of becoming a world class training institution of pediatric nephrology in the Asia-Pacific region. To achieve this, it needs competent and skilled nephrologists."This training not only opened my eyes to the advances in diagnosing and managing pediatric renal diseases but will hopefuly encourages my colleagues to strive in achieving these advances," she adds.

The deadline for the next Fellowship application session is June 15, 2014. For more information about this program CLICK HERE.
