Establishing a core outcome measure for life participation in children with chronic kidney disease: A Standardized Outcomes in Nephrology—children and adolescents with chronic kidney disease (SONG-Kids) consensus workshop report

Life participation is a priority for children with chronic kidney disease (CKD), yet it is rarely measured consistently in pediatric CKD trials.

Through international consensus workshops involving patients, caregivers, and health professionals, the SONG-Kids initiative evaluated and refined a proposed patient-reported core outcome measure for life participation for children and adolescents.

The workshops concluded that a standardized, developmentally appropriate measure is feasible and necessary to support more patient-centered research and care in pediatric CKD.

The impact of homelessness on kidney outcomes among adults with diabetes

This study examined whether a history of homelessness is associated with worse kidney outcomes among adults living with diabetes.

Despite similar access to nephrology care with non-homeless people, homelessness was linked to faster kidney function decline, higher rates of kidney-related hospitalizations, and an increased risk of starting renal replacement therapy.

The findings highlight homelessness as a critical social determinant of kidney health and reinforce the need for tailored, equity-focused approaches to diabetes and kidney care.
