Another step forward: WHO launches a dedicated kidney disease webpage

The World Health Organization (WHO) has launched a dedicated webpage on kidney disease—another important step in recognizing kidney disease as a major noncommunicable disease (NCD) and global health priority.

This development builds on the momentum of the WHO Kidney Health Resolution (May 2025) and the UN Political Declaration on NCDs and Mental Health (December 2025), both of which underscore the critical role of kidney disease in addressing the global NCD burden and achieving SDG target 3.4.

Kidney disease is increasingly recognized as a major driver of morbidity and mortality worldwide, closely interconnected with other NCDs such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

This new WHO resource marks a meaningful step forward—one that can help accelerate awareness, policy action, and health system strengthening.

At ISN, we welcome this progress and remain committed to working with WHO and Member States in addressing the global burden of kidney disease and expanding access to quality kidney care.
