ISN sets up joint ISN-Heartlands Fellowship

A new collaboration between ISN and the Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham, UK will fund fellowship training for up to two candidates from South Asia. Applications are open until October 1, 2015.

ISN just signed a new contract with Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham to co-sponsor one fellowship training per year as from 2015. The fellow will be a young physician from South Asia who will receive hands-on clinical training at Heartlands Hospital.

Applicants must be under 40 years old and follow training in nephrology in South Asia. Applicants must also have an IELTS (international English Language Testing System) score of 7.5 or above, be qualified for at least 3 years and have a post graduate qualification at the time of appointment.

The selection process is the same as other ISN Fellowships and will be handled by the Fellowship Committee. To apply online follow instructions HERE. The next application deadline is 0ctober 1, 2015. Heartlands Hospital is part of the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust which includes Heartlands Hospital, Solihull Hospital and Good Hope Hospital. It is situated in Birmingham, UK and caters to a population of 1 million.

The Trust has over 1000 beds across three sites and provides the full range of acute hospital services. Regional specialties include nephrology, cardiology, thoracic surgery, clinical haematology, and infectious diseases. The regional virology and immunology departments are on the Heartlands site together with the Birmingham Public Health Laboratory. Other specialised units include a large department of thoracic medicine with a supra-regional cystic fibrosis unit. The Renal Unit opened in 1966. The Heartlands unit manages approximately 475 patients with end stage renal failure on hospital, satellite and home hemodialysis and CAPD.

The ISN Fellowship program provides relevant and contemporary nephrology training to physicians from emerging countries, with the ultimate goal of improving the standards in the Fellows’ home countries upon their return and becoming leaders in their fields.
