2019 Pioneer Award for NIS and Russia Presented at ANNIS 2020

Professor Valery Pilotovich

Professor Valery Pilotovich, Nephrology and Urology Department of Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, was presented with the 2019 ISN Pioneer Award for the NIS and Russia region at the 6th Congress of the Association of Nephrologists of New Independent States (ANNIS) held in Minsk, Belarus, on December 7, 2020.

The ISN Pioneer Awards recognize individuals who have made outstanding, sustained contributions to the establishment or development of nephrology in their own country or region.

Professor Pilotovich has been a leader in nephrology in Belarus for many decades: He was involved in the kidney transplantation program, served as chief nephrologist of the Belarusian Health Ministry, helped establish kidney biopsy, peritoneal dialysis, and hemodialysis programs, which allowed broad access to kidney replacement therapy. Professor Pilotovich founded the Republican Nephrology and Transplantation Center, led the City Nephrology Center in Minsk, and has published over 300 papers.

This year, to mark the 50th anniversary of kidney transplantation in Belarus, the congress was merged with the XIV Conference, “Hot Topics in Nephrology and Kidney Replacement Therapy.” This was, therefore, a fitting moment to present the ISN Pioneer Award to Professor Pilotovich in recognition of his inspiring work.
