Kazakhstan’s National Congress Honors Young Nephrologists

ISN NIS & Russia Regional Board Chair, Abduzhappar Gaipov with Valdemir Kim, one of the recipients of the best abstract award

By Abduzhappar Gaipov

Despite COVID-19-related restrictions, the Kazakhstan Society of Nephrologists, Dialysis, and Transplant Physicians held its 5th Annual National Congress from November 20-21, 2021, in hybrid mode, in Nur-Sultan city, the capital of Kazakhstan. The event was endorsed by the ISN and the European Renal Association.

To encourage future generations of kidney care providers, the meeting hosts an annual event to recognize the best abstracts of the year from young nephrologists within the ISN NIS & Russia region. The winners were presented with their awards in the last session of the congress. This is the fourth consecutive year that the competition has been held.

First places were awarded to:

  • Altynay Balmukhanova, Kazakhstan (2017)
  • Yekaterina Parshina, Russia (2018)
  • Zauresh Amreyeva, Kazakhstan (2019)
  • Valdemir Kim, Kazakhstan (2021)

Before the presentations, senior colleagues shared experiences of their professional development, collaborations, and activities within different kidney health organizations. As ISN NIS & Russia regional board chair, I presented a talk on the wide range of ISN Programs and encouraged all colleagues to get involved in these activities.
