Sharing, Socialising, and Quizzing – Krissia Wallbach-Massai on YNC Activities at WCN’23, and Why It’s an Extra Special Edition

By YNC member Krissia Wallbach-Massai (Brazil)

The ISN Young Nephrologists Committee (YNC) is pleased to announce a fantastic program of activities for WCN’23 in Bangkok!

After a long COVID-19-imposed break, we can finally meet in person again – and we are so excited about it! Despite having worked together on many projects over the past few years, it will be the first time most YNC members meet the rest of the team offline.

For the upcoming congress, we’ve had the opportunity to work alongside the Asia Pacific Society of Nephrology’s (APSN) Young Nephrologists Committee. The joint discussions we had to plan our congress activities were a very enriching experience. The APSN-YNC Chair, Dr. Kornchanok Vareesangthip, and her team are doing excellent work getting early-career nephrologists in the Asia Pacific region more involved in their activities.

So, what has the YNC planned for WCN’23?

The YNC Session at WCN’23

Friday, March 31, 8.30-10 a.m., MR 110 ABC*

A Steep Learning Curve: Young Nephrologists’ Stories of Training and Adversity

YNC members from different parts of the world share their stories, experiences, and struggles – from different training approaches to caring for patients during political and economic crises.

The Young Nephrologist’s quiz-a-thon

Saturday, April 1, 2.15-3.15 p.m. Spotlight Theatre

Five teams representing different world regions will compete in a quiz to foster engagement and connection between YNs from different countries in an interactive and fun way. Be sure to join us and take part! Please complete this survey if you would like to participate in the quiz-a-thon. We are aiming to have equal-sized teams to represent the regions.

Social meeting for younger ISN members

Friday, March 31, 6.15-7.30 p.m., Cider Bar, lobby level at Hotel Fraser by Modena (a five-minute walk from the convention center)

A fantastic networking opportunity for young nephrologists! Meet members of the ISN YNC, the APSN YNC, the Emerging Leaders Program, and congress delegates from all over the world. We’re looking forward to enjoying a refreshing drink with you!

YNC internal meeting

Friday, March 31, 3.30-5 p.m., MR 105

In addition to activities for all early-career ISN members, the YNC will gather to celebrate their first in-person meeting since WCN’19 in Melbourne.

It will be a great moment to reflect on achievements from the past few years and plan our next steps. It will also be the occasion to thank and say goodbye to our departing YNC Chair, Marina Wainstein, and to welcome new members to our committee.

We look forward to meeting you at one or more of our activities. They are open to all congress participants – the young or the young at heart!
