Strengthening Global Nephrology: Highlights From Taiwan

In December 2024, the ISN conducted a Scientific Writing Course (SWC) in Taiwan, co-hosted and co-supported by the Taiwan Society of Nephrology (TSN). The course equipped participants with the tools and confidence to craft high-quality research publications.

Testimonials from participants highlight the course’s value:

“The course provided me with an opportunity to learn how to write scientific papers in a more formal and professional manner. It also gave me a chance to reflect on the skills I need to improve and the knowledge I currently lack. I am grateful to the ISN for offering me such a valuable opportunity to learn and enhance my writing skills.” Yun-Ting Huang (Taiwan)

“The course substantially improved my understanding of what well-written should look like. The materials I received from the course will be my go-to reference whenever I need to revise or share with my colleagues and students.”  Phu Tran (Vietnam)

“This course has benefited my department and institution. It has sparked interest and discussions about improving scientific writing practices within our team.”  Tanat Lertussavavivat (Thailand)

“This course gave me detailed insights into the elements of writing a strong research paper. Whether I become a resident doctor or pursue a research career, the skills I’ve gained will be immensely helpful. I am deeply grateful to have attended this course.” Truong Thao (Vietnam)

Robert Walker, chair of the ISN Clinical Research Committee and  SWC director and mentor, moderated the panel discussions at the meeting. The symposium explored cutting-edge topics like multi-omics and epigenetics in precision medicine. Delegates also enjoyed insights on meta-analysis pitfalls and challenges in basic nephrology research. Panel discussions offered practical takeaways.

ISN staff attended the TSN meeting in person, hosting a booth to engage with participants and promote kidney health initiatives. The ISN global petition, aimed at elevating kidney disease on the global health agenda, generated significant interest among attendees.
