Fluid Management Protocols in Hemodialysis Patients Using Bioimpedance Validation: Time to Look Elsewhere?

This study investigated the impact of clinical protocols versus bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) on managing volume status in hemodialysis patients and its effect on preserving residual kidney function (RKF).

The findings reveal that standardized volume management protocols achieved similar outcomes to BIS in terms of RKF preservation, highlighting the effectiveness of routine, protocol-driven care in dialysis settings.

Role of Mitochondrial Dysfunction in CKD-related Vascular Calcification: From Mechanisms to Therapeutics

Vascular calcification (VC) in chronic kidney disease (CKD) is linked to cardiovascular events and results from the osteogenic transformation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), driven by mitochondrial dysfunction.

This review highlights how mitochondrial processes, including biogenesis, dynamics, and oxidative stress, contribute to VC and emphasizes the need for further research to develop effective treatments for this condition.
