The ISN Presents Its North America and the Caribbean Pioneer Award to Everard Barton at the Annual Caribbean International Conference

The ISN will honor Everard N. Barton  (Jamaica) with the prestigious 2025 Pioneer Award for the ISN North America and the Caribbean region at the 17th Annual Caribbean International Conference on Nephrology and Hypertension. This hybrid event will take place on January 26, 2025, in Mona, Jamaica.

The Award presentation will feature ISN President Masaomi Nangaku who will introduce the Pioneer Award in a pre-recorded address at 8:25 a.m. EST (convert to your time zone here). Shuchi Anand, regional board chair, will further celebrate Professor Barton’s extensive achievements in a pre-recorded talk.

Professor Barton is widely recognized for his transformative impact on kidney care in the Caribbean. He founded the Caribbean Institute of Nephrology at the University of West Indies, Jamaica. He also established the first nephrology fellowship program in the English-speaking Caribbean. This program has trained many practicing nephrologists who continue to serve in the region today.

The conference and award presentation celebrates Professor Barton’s lasting legacy and contributions to advancing kidney care across the Caribbean.
