The ISN honors the memory of Yackoob Kassim Seedat, who passed away in January 2026. He was a nephrologist and hypertensiologist based in Durban, South Africa. A longstanding ISN member, Prof. Seedat was a recipient of the ISN Pioneer Award for Africa in 2014, recognizing his extraordinary contributions to advancing nephrology in the region. His contributions to kidney care and hypertension prevention in sub-Saharan Africa and commitment to education, mentorship, and capacity building left a lasting impact. He also trained generations of physicians and helped establish and strengthen nephrology practice and research in South Africa, shaping the careers of clinicians and academics locally and internationally.
