Sharing bedside lessons: Writing a case report for Kidney International Case Reports™
Every nephrologist has encountered a case that stayed with them, one that challenged assumptions, raised new questions, or changed how they approach care. Turning that experience into a case report is not about including every detail, but about sharing the clinical lesson that others can apply.
Submit your case report to KICR
Kidney International Case Reports™ (KICR) provides an open-access platform for sharing these real-world clinical insights with a global audience. For many clinicians and trainees, a case report is also a first step into publishing, and KICR is designed to support that journey.
What makes a case report publishable?
A case does not need to be extremely rare, but it should offer something readers can learn from. Editors look for cases that are:
- Authentic and clinically meaningful
- Clear and understandable
- Educational, with a takeaway for practice
- Focused on a key insight: A diagnostic dilemma, an unusual presentation, an unexpected treatment response, or a management decision with broader relevance
What should your case report include?
The strongest submissions follow a simple structure:
- Brief introduction: Why this case matters
- Case presentation: The patient story and clinical course
- Investigations: Laboratory results, imaging, or biopsy findings
- Discussion: Clinical insight and relevance
- Take-home message: Practical learning point
Share your insight with the global kidney community
If a case has changed the way you think about kidney care, it’s worth sharing: Submit your case report to KICR today.
