HRH Prince Daniel of Sweden meets ISN Immediate Past-President, Masaomi Nangaku, in Japan to champion global kidney health

On October 14, 2025, His Royal Highness Prince Daniel of Sweden visited ISN Immediate Past-President Masaomi Nangaku at the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Medicine. A kidney transplant recipient and patron of the ISN, Prince Daniel has long been an advocate for kidney disease awareness.

They discussed ISN initiatives, including the Global Kidney Health Atlas, Consensus Meetings, and collaborative research projects, as well as differences in kidney transplantation approaches between Japan and Europe. Prince Daniel warmly wished every success for the World Congress of Nephrology 2026, to be held in Yokohama, Japan, from March 28-31.

Following the meeting, Prince Daniel spoke to the Japanese news broadcaster NHK, saying:

Encouraging early detection and preventing kidney disease from worsening through better diet is essential, as so many people worldwide currently suffer from the condition.”

The ISN thanks HRH Prince Daniel for his unwavering support and looks forward to continued collaboration in raising awareness, advancing research, and improving care worldwide.
