ISN Journal Summaries on Clinical Practice Guideline for ADPKD and Mitochondrial Function in Diabetic Kidney Disease

Kidney International®

KDIGO 2025 Clinical Practice Guideline for the Evaluation, Management, and Treatment of Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD): Executive Summary

The KDIGO 2025 Clinical Practice Guideline for ADPKD is the first global guideline on the evaluation, management, and treatment of this genetic disorder, focusing on areas such as diagnosis, kidney manifestations, disease progression, and extrarenal issues.

Developed with input from healthcare providers, researchers, and patients, it provides evidence-based recommendations for managing ADPKD across all stages of life.

The KDIGO guideline also highlights gaps in knowledge, research priorities, and the need for a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to care, ensuring actionable guidance for clinicians and patients worldwide.

Kidney International Reports®

Advancing Understanding of Mitochondrial Function in Diabetic Kidney Disease

This special issue of Kidney International Reports® brings together research on mitochondrial dysfunction in diabetic kidney disease (DKD), a major cause of end-stage renal disease.

It highlights how mitochondrial impairment contributes to renal injury through mechanisms like oxidative stress, impaired mitochondrial dynamics, and DNA damage. It explores novel therapeutic strategies such as AMP-activated protein kinase activation and modulation of nitric oxide pathways.

The issue also examines emerging mediators like stanniocalcin-1 and apabetalone, providing fresh insights into potential therapies targeting mitochondrial health to improve DKD management and patient outcomes.
