Defining Measures of Kidney Function In Observational Studies Using Routine Health Care Data: Methodological and Reporting Considerations

This review illustrates the diversity of working definitions of kidney disease in scientific literature and discusses the advantages and limitations of the most commonly used approaches.

The authors summarize ways to identify and overcome possible biases and propose a framework for reporting definitions of exposures and outcomes in studies of kidney disease using routinely collected health care data.

 

Novel Treatment Paradigms: Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis  

Recent advances in defining the genetic and immunologic basis of disease have redefined the classification of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). 

New clinical trial activity and the successful use of repurposed agents offer hope for improved treatments. 

This mini review summarizes these advances with a focus on novel treatment paradigms.
